The Facial Massage That Lifts + Tightens: SUQQU Gankin Massage at Selfridges

We’ve all heard of ‘face workouts’, and never before has the art of facial message become so talked about. So if you’re wanting those tightened, lifted and shaped facial results, where are you going to go for it?

Well, if you live near to a Selfridges department store, I would run – not walk – there first, before checking out clinics and salons. I had the pleasure of being invited down to SUQQU at Manchester Exchange Square Selfridges to find out exactly what their Gankin facial massage is all about.

Known for its luxurious skincare and beauty products, SUQQU offers a unique experience that transcends typical facials – the renowned Gankin facial massage. Can it give me an instant improvement? Let’s see…

The SUQQU Experience

From the moment you arrive at the SUQQU counter, you can almost sense the quality and professionalism of the brand. Whereas at some premium beauty counters, you either get looked up and down by the staff, or completely hounded and feel like you’re being ‘watched’, this was not the case. Phew – breathe a sign of relief. I adore a friendly browsing environment.

The lady at the SUQQU counter was incredibly friendly and down-to-earth, chatty without being pushy, and professional without being too ‘stuffy’. I browsed the brand, asked questions, looked at their product ranges, before being taken to their facial area at the back of their concession.

Everything felt rather wonderful, from the minimalist design, to the sense of calm professionalism. When my facialist arrived and talked me through the Gankin massage, I was extremely excited to try something new.

What is the Gankin Facial Massage?

The Gankin facial massage is a signature treatment developed by SUQQU, rooted in traditional Japanese beauty practices. It aims to enhance the natural contours of the face, improve blood circulation, and promote lymphatic drainage. The technique involves firm, rhythmic kneading and pressing motions that work deeply into the facial muscles.

Is it relaxing?

Um… yes and no. It has very relaxing elements at some parts, but because there is a certain amount of pressure needed, it’s not the type of facial where you will drift off into a slumber!

The Gankin Massage Treatment

The session begins with a consultation where the therapist assesses your skin type and any specific concerns you might have. For me, she pointed out that she would work the muscles around the mouth, lower cheeks and jaw in particularly.

She started with a thorough cleanse, and then applied a luxurious SUQQU massage cream, infused with botanical extracts and essential oils, which not only facilitates the massage but also nourishes the skin. It feels divine, such a rich, creamy texture.

The Gankin massage itself is quite a transformative experience. My therapist used a combination of knuckle, palm, and finger techniques to stimulate my facial muscles, in which I filmed the experience because I knew I’d want to watch it all back! The pressure is firm yet comfortable, it felt ‘tougher’ around the mouth area (they will ask you if you have any teeth issues or anything to be aware of first!), as each stroke is designed to release tension and improve muscle tone.

You might feel slight discomfort as knots and tightness are worked out, but it’s a satisfying sensation that underscores the effectiveness of the treatment.

Benefits and Results

Immediately after the massage, my face felt revitalised and tightened, and kinda like it had been lifted a tiny bit upwards, if that makes sense. Due to the intense massage, my skin appeared more radiant, with a noticeable reduction in puffiness. Apparently, if you can carry out this practice often, it has amazing results on fine lines in which you don’t have to rush off for botox, so I am very keen on returning and having a bit of an ‘up-keep’.

It was honestly a very rejuvenating experience, and my therapist was so knowledgeable about muscles and facial structures – not just the ‘fluffier’ parts to massage. She knew where to apply more pressure, and I really felt the lifted look under my cheek bones and where I have deep mouth lines (you know, the nasal folds).

Over time, with regular sessions, the Gankin massage promises to redefine facial contours and enhance skin elasticity.

How much is it?

It costs £50, which is redeemable on products at SUQQU.

Final Thoughts

The SUQQU Gankin facial massage at Selfridges is more than just a beauty treatment; it’s a journey of rejuvenation and self-care. The blend of traditional techniques and luxurious products did deliver a visible result on myself, even though I wasn’t really expecting to see an immediate ‘lift’. Granted, it is not the dreamiest and sleepiest facial experience you’ll ever have. It’s like a real ‘work of art’ – there’s an element of hard work involved and that’s going to feel a little ouchy at times!

I have quite a rounded face, which definitely benefits from any form of tightening, lifting and toning, so for me, it’s something I should invest in. If you suffer from puffiness, sagginess or dull skin, I would say you are an ideal candidate too.
